Squeak

What it sounds like

A rubber duck, gently, from across the bath. The press squeaks upward and the release squeaks back down, so a click is a tiny eek-ook. It is reedy and a little silly, and it does not try to hide it.

Good for

• Bath-time silliness in otherwise serious software
• Kids’ content and playful streams
• Making a colleague look up from their desk

How it is made

A single sawtooth wave gliding from 1.5 up to 2.4 kHz over 60 ms, squeezed through a narrow bandpass around 2.5 kHz that gives it the rubbery tone. The release runs the glide the other way.

Every qliqr sound is synthesised from a small text recipe, so the version you hear here is the same one the Mac app plays, with natural variation so no two presses are identical.
